Each month, the Ashland MFA Program receives calls for submissions and contest deadlines, which it publicizes in its monthly newsletter. Listed below are this month's calls for submissions.

Final Judge for 2014: Billy Collins
First Place: $1,000, publication in Asheville Poetry Review, and a featured reading at Malaprop’s Bookstore in Asheville
Second Place: $250, publication, and a featured reading at Malaprop’s Bookstore
Third Place: publication and a featured reading at Malaprop’s Bookstore
The final judging process will be “blind” (all identifying information will be removed from the poems).
All submissions will be considered for publication.

Small Po[r]tions Journal Call for Submissions
Our literary journal, Small Po[r]tions, aims to publish work that minimizes, blurs, or exaggerates distinctions between genres and hopes to offer a shared space for experimental creative fiction and nonfiction, lyrical fiction, poetry, and multimedia pieces. This journal will have an online component for new media works as well as a print component that will have a focus in book arts. Our first issue will be published in the Spring of 2014.
We will send each contributor a print copy of Small Po[r]tions and our gratitude for your help in getting this journal off the ground in fine fashion. Columbus Arts Festival Poetry Contest
We welcome entries in any and every literary genre, and from any visual or audio medium, including, but not limited to, poems, stories, essays, profiles, digital video shorts, photoessays, scholarly articles, songs, short plays, and innovative writing and productions about lost objects and images of material culture: sculptures and paintings in the back rooms of museums or in hidden corners of public spaces; murals forgotten in plain view; lost photographic archives and restored films; newly discovered letters or manuscripts; knickknacks
in attics; oddities and curiosities in misbegotten sideshows; forgotten stories that remind us of pasts that we cannot afford to forget. At this time, we are especially looking for fiction and nonfiction work.

We have already began initial efforts on our blog site (where the project will be posted). These reviews typically range from 500-1000 words, and have thus far received very positive feedback from the reviewed poets as well as poetics sites such as the Poetry Foundation's Harriet blog.
We are looking for commitments of 3-5 reviews over the span of a year. These would be due on a rolling deadline, and review copies would be provided by the publishers.

It's time to get your application in for the 2014 Columbus Arts Festival. We're looking forward to putting together another stellar group of poets to perform at the Festival, June 6, 7 & 8.

We are pleased to announce the inaugural Vine Leaves Vignette Collection Award and would like to invite writers to submit their best manuscript of vignettes.
Submissions open: June 1, 2013 – February 1, 2014
Prize: $500 + Publication in early 2015 by Vine Leaves Press + 20 copies

Entry fee: $15.
Deadline: February 15, 2014.
To be eligible, the poet must be a resident of Virginia, a student at a Virginia college or university, or a member of James River Writers. The poems must not have previously won an award and must be original, unpublished, and not scheduled for publication prior to October 20, 2014. A maximum of four poems may be submitted, but none should be more than one page in length, typed on one side of white, 8 ½” x 11” paper. Poems must be in 12 point, standard font (such as Times New Roman or Arial) and must be written in English. The entry fee is $15 and checks should be made out to James River Writers. A poet may only enter once.
Entrants will be notified of the results by July 31, 2014. The winning entry will be published in the September 2014 issue of Richmond Magazine, and the winner will be celebrated at the 2014 James River Writers Conference on October 18-19.

2013 Home Voices Contest
Each fall, Flyway's annual Home Voices Contest invites submissions from current MFA candidates in Creative Writing and Environment at Iowa State University (excluding current Flyway editors and previous Home Voices winners). Elizabeth Bradfield, founder and editor-in-chief of Broadsided Press and author of Approaching Ice, generously judged the submissions to our 2013 Home Voices Contest. A big congrats to Lindsay D'Andrea for her winning poem "Rock Wall, New Hampshire" and to Dana Thomann, whose short story "Flood Gap" took runner-up. The Volta Review Project
The Volta (www.thevolta.org) web journal. I am currently organizing a reviews project tiled "365 reviews," in which the journal will attempt to address the ongoing "glut" pervading contemporary poetry by providing a relevant and thoughtful—if brief—review each day over the span of a year. We have already began initial efforts on our blog site (where the project will be posted).
