Nonfiction on The Personal Aftermath of War
Hudson Whitman/Excelsior College Press has opened a call for stories, The Personal Aftermath of War, stories of coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan. The call is open to those who have served, as well as their families, spouses, relatives, friends, and anyone whose lives have been touched by these conflicts. Those selected will receive $200 + publication in a forthcoming anthology. Dario DiBattista, an instructor with the Veteran's Writing Project, will be editing the collection. Deadline is May 1, 2015.

Barking Sycamores Summer/Fall 2015 Pop Culture Theme
Barking Sycamores is a literary journal publishing poetry, short fiction (1000 words or less), and art by neurodivergent (autistic, ADHD, bipolar, dyslexic, etc.) writers and artists. Issue 6 (Summer/Fall 2015) will be our Pop Culture Issue. We seek submissions on any aspect of popular culture -- film, television, music, literature, artwork, humour, internet memes... you get the idea. Commentary on, satire of, or works inspired by pop culture are encouraged. While we are happy to consider persona pieces in which fictional characters speak, we regret that we cannot consider fan fiction for this issue. And as always, we also seek essays on neurodivergence and how it impacts the creation of literary works. IMAGINATE Magazine launches June 1, 2015. This quarterly digital magazine is geared toward both readers and writers – those who love the written word. We noticed a need for reading material of short creative pieces, so we began soliciting short stories, flash fiction, poetry, and nonfiction articles that we’ll combine into themed issues each quarter. Peseroff Prize for Poetry for Single Poem
Breakwater Review is proud to announce The Peseroff Prize: publication and $1,000 for a single poem. The Peseroff Prize honors Joyce Peseroff’s work as a poet, teacher, editor, innovator, and mentor. She helped found the MFA Program in Creative Writing at the University of Massachusetts Boston, served as its first director, and retired from teaching in 2014. Submit up to three poems and a $10 entry fee from Jan. 1 to May 15. There are no restrictions on length, content, or form: “it’s all poetry.” All submissions will be considered for publication. River Teeth Creative Nonfiction Conference

Elk River Four-Day Retreat
The 2015 Elk River Writer’s Workshop will be held from October 22 to October 25 at Chico Hot Springs Resort in spectacular Paradise Valley, Montana.
