Each month, the Ashland MFA Program receives calls for submissions and contest deadlines, which it publicizes in its monthly newsletter. Listed below are this month's calls for submissions.
Deadline: July 1, 2014
Prose should be limited to 5,000 words. Poetry submissions should have no more than three poems (max five pages). Work previously published (including on the internet) cannot be considered.

Bellevue Literary Review Prizes
The Bellevue Literary Review Prizes recognize exceptional writing about health, healing, illness, the mind, and the body. First prize is $1,000 and publication in the Spring 2015 issue of the Bellevue Literary Review. Prizes of $1,000 each are offered in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

The Frank Martin Review accepting Nonfiction, Fiction, Poetry and Blogs
The Frank Martin Review – a new, semi-annual, independent literary journal based out of Columbia, South Carolina – is currently accepting submissions of creative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry for their print edition.

The Examined Life Journal Call for Submissions
The Examined Life Journal is accepting new submissions of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry until September 1, 2014. The journal is seeking works related to health and the human condition in all its myriad definitions. Submissions are sent electronically, and there is no fee to submit. Constance Rooke Creative Nonfiction Contest
The Malahat Review, Canada’s premier literary magazine, invites emerging and established writers from Canada, the United States, and elsewhere to enter the 2014 Constance Rooke Creative Nonfiction Contest. A prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the best work that embraces, but is not limited to, the personal essay, memoir, narrative nonfiction, social commentary, travel writing, historical accounts, and biography, all enhanced by such elements as description, dramatic scenes, dialogue, and characterization.

Gigantic Sequins summer contest and call for submissions
Please help spread the word about the Gigantic Sequins 3rd annual summer contest series in poetry and flash fiction, judged respectively by Dawn Lundy Martin and May Jonhson. GS is accepting submissions only through our Submittable account and more information can be found there and on our official site's contest page.
We'll accept contest submissions until July 15.

New contest for mid-career poets
Leslie McGrath will serve as Series Editor for our new contest, The Tenth Gate, named after Jane Hirshfield's marvelous essay collection, Nine Gates: Entering the Mind of Poetry. Entrants must have two or more poetry collections previously published by a literary press. $1000 prize, standard contract, promotion. Deadline: July 15. Afterimage Writing and Photography Project
Submit writing to “Inklight,” a meeting place of creative writing and photography published on the web site of Afterimage: The Journal of Media Arts and Cultural Criticism published at Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, New York. For this unique project, photographers submit original work, which is selected to be posted on the Afterimage web site. Writers then submit original creative writing inspired by one of the images on the web site (engaging in the process of ekphrasis). New “Inklight” features will be posted on our web site regularly and archived indefinitely.
