Each month, the Ashland MFA Program receives calls for submissions and contest deadlines, which it publicizes in its monthly newsletter. Listed below are this month's calls for submissions.

Journal Submissions

pacificREVIEW "Vivarium" theme

The newest issue of the pacificREVIEW seeks dynamic pieces of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, graphic narratives, photography, and artwork that speak to the theme of “Vivarium” and interrogate the ever-blurring line between "real" and "unreal" settings. Submission period ends February 28.

Female Writers – All Genres, All Topics

Minerva Rising Literary Journal is seeking short stories, essays, poetry, creative non-fiction, flash fiction, original prints, graphic arts and photographs for their upcoming issue. Submit your CrossGenre or Experimental Writing

Small Po[r]tions is accepting submissions for Issue 4! They publish work that minimizes, blurs, or exaggerates distinctions between genres and hope to offer a shared space for experimental creative fiction and nonfiction, lyrical fiction, poetry, and multimedia pieces. Small Po[r]tions issues have a print component with a focus on book arts and an online component featuring selections from the print issue along with media work. What to send: Ambitious writing that pushes against the conventional boundaries of the genre, plays with style and form, and makes its own rules.
Deadline: January 20, 2015

Beyond Crazy: True Stories of Surviving Mental Illness (an anthology)
What to send: Original stories that address--either directly or obliquely--the trials of living with mental illness.

Deadline: February 9, 2015

Becoming a Teacher (another anthology)
What to send: Stories by and/or about elementary and secondary school teachers, recalling and reflecting on the most salient moments of their careers.

Deadline: March 9, 2015

The Weather (a special issue of Creative Nonfictionmagazine)
What's on the line: $1,000 for best essay; $500 for runner-up; publication in CNF
What to send: True stories--personal, historical, reported--about fog, drought, flooding, tornado-chasing, blizzards, hurricanes, hail the size of golfballs, or whatever's happening where you are.
Deadline: April 13, 2015

New Literary and Creative Arts Magazine seeking submissions

FishFood Magazine is also currently seeking submissions for its second issue. We accept short fiction, creative nonfiction, micro fiction/flash fiction, all types of poetry, submissions in French, personal essays, letters and diaries.

3Elements for Winter: Wring, Respite, Smudge

3Elements is currently accepting stories, poems, nonfiction, art, and photography for our sixth issue, due January 1st. Stories and poems must include the following elements: Wring, Respite, and Smudge. Art and photography need only represent one element. You can also enter one of their contests--for poetry (judged by Ravi Shankar) and for fiction (judged by Susan Tepper). Submission fee is $10, deadline is March 1. Gulf Coast Journal Accepting Submissions for Print Issue

Gulf Coast Journal is accepting poetry, fiction, and nonfiction submissions for their print issue until March 1st. They have a $2.00 reading fee. GCOnline accepts submissions for Exclusives year-round. Online publication exposes your work to an audience of 10,000 unique page views, and 11,000 twitter followers.

Tupelo Quarterly's Prose Open Contest is accepting entries in all styles, sensibilities and related genres - fiction, nonfiction and hybrid work. Nowhere Travel Writing contest

Award-winning literary travel magazine, Nowhere, is teaming up with Lorin Stein, editor of The Paris Review, for the first Nowhere Fall Travel Writing Contest.  They are looking for young, old, novice and veteran voices to send stories that possess a powerful sense of place. Stories can be fiction or nonfiction, but please indicate which genre at the top of your manuscript. Entries should be between 800-5,000 words and must not have been previously chosen as a winner in another contest. Previously published work is accepted, but again, please indicate this. River Teeth Creative Nonfiction Conference

Join the community of nonfiction writers in Ashland, Ohio, for a weekend of manuscript consultations, seminars, and readings, all focused on the craft of nonfiction. Registration Open for HippoCamp Conference for Creative Nonfiction

Hippocampus Magazine is an online publication set out to entertain, educate and engage writers and readers of creative nonfiction. HippoCamp is an in-the-flesh extension of that three-fold mission.
